Another set from my buddy Adrian.

I wore a green striped boat neck shirt with three-quarter sleeves from J. Crew. It was a hand-me-down from my mom. Well, she didn’t so much as hand it down to me as toss it into a “donate” pile of clothes. I just happened to fish it out and claim it as my own.

The pants are from Forever 21, a classic pair of skinny jeans that cost me oh…$12.

Shoes are from the Loft. Though, they are really old, so I don’t really know how much they were.

Well, here’s one thing about NorCal: I definitely don’t try to dress as nice. Furthermore, my job is so laid back, that the only time I ever really need to look nice is when (1) I meet up with professors, and (2) the CEO is in town to hang out. Otherwise, I can pretty much get away with jeans and a shirt. I’ve even worn flip-flops. TERRIBLE.

But today, I’ve decided to revolutionize myself.

I just need to care more. About everything.

(1) My health and fitness, (2) my fashion sense (even when I can get away with flip-flops and jeans), (3) my hygiene (this mostly means washing my face at night as I don’t really do it, because I do shower everyday–sometimes twice a day–and y’know, brush my teeth and stuff), (4) my food, and (5) my career.

If I care more about all of the above, I am convinced that my LIFE will fall into place just right. And maybe, I’ll stop feeling…like this.

So here’s a start by re-sparking my Fashion-Unable series:

My friend, AdroMew, was in the mood to play photographer in Golden Gate Park and these were the results.

This Coral dress was something I ordered off the Forever 21 website when I was in one of those desperate moods for color. As you all know, Summer had been a little late in arriving, and the June Gloom was getting to me. I needed a dash of color. Thus, $23 later I had my wish.

The shoes are actually my mother’s. They are a lovely pair of no-name brand sandals that I had bought for her. Here’s the story: we were all dressed up to go see Hugh Jackman perform at the Curran Theater last May and she had on these perfectly beautiful black high-heeled slingbacks. Unfortunately, she had also spent all morning and afternoon doing the Filipino version of a line-dance. So, when we were finally off to go see Wolverine, she claimed she couldn’t possibly walk the four blocks from our parking garage to the Curran Theater. “Luckily” for her, there was a DSW just half a block down. And ta-da these surprisingly comfortable camel sandals came into her (our) possession.

I wore them that day because I anticipated a walk through the park, and like I said, they’re extremely comfortable with the padded insole and 2-inch chunky heels.

The sweater is from…no clue. It’s been a while. It’s a wool-blend 3/4 sleeve cardigan. It kept me quite warm and perfectly content in the 64 degree San Francisco weather.

I also wore green nail polish and tried to pretend I was going for a contrast with my coral dress. But really, it was because the night before, I had gone to an Oakland A’s game and green was one of their team colors. I just didn’t have time to change my nails.

It was color I wanted, it is color I’ve got.

@the Natural History Museum

I love how my girl friends each have such a unique sense of style.  I’ve learned so much from them.

It was First Fridays at the Natural History Museum. That meant being able to indulge in our geekifying love of Museum lore (dinosaurs, history, human evolution, animals, bones, precious stones! oh my!) and our love of going out and indulging in the amazing LA nightlife.

@Sigh always has a way of making the simplest pieces look unique and fashionable. She’s definitely one of my fashion idols. Becoming her roommate was one of the biggest learning experiences fashion-wise ever.  Here, she has a pair of black skinny jeans. First of all, she rarely ever wears pants. For her to be in pants only really means one thing: it’s cold outside. This was February last year, so still in the dead of winter.  She’s paired the black jeans with a loose sequined v-neck top with a drawstring waist.  It’s actually a cami.

I also love the black gladiator heels which I’m pretty sure she bought from F21 and could not have been more than $30. Finally, that amazing coat with the gold button accents just pulls the rest of the outfit together.

I’ll ask her later what/who she’s wearing. Haha. Because she’s good like that.

NHM Crew

I’m wearing a gray cowl neck sweater from F21. It was actually on sale, so it cost nothing more than $4.99. It’s tunic length and form-fitting, so I had to be conscious not to wear pants that were too tight around the waist…if you know what I mean. I had just come from work, so I had kept the top and just swapped my sensible black working skirt with a fun pair of faux leather leggings. I added on a black belt to accentuate the waist and break the length of the tunic. I didn’t want to look all torso and no legs, y’know? Then, I borrowed @Sigh’s black knee-length flat boots.

JJC is wearing a simple pair of jeans, black flat boots, a white top and a navy sweater. She pulls the entire outfit together with accessories, including the checkered scarf and Burberry earmuffs (pictured below).

Becca is also another one of my friends of whom I am always in fashion awe. She really puts together outfits that I can’t even begin to imagine, and makes them look damn good. Here, she’s got a short, short skirt with gray leggings, ballet flats and, of course, leg warmers. I also adore her black bomber leather jacket. It’s very tough ballerina.

Evee is all about the dramatic in this outfit. Haha. The trench, the patterned leggings, the boots, all beautifully topped off with the haircessory. As far as I can tell, I think it’s a little skull cap with a black flower. I don’t know how else to explain it. Maybe she can help me out later. I honestly cannot remember what she had on underneath the coat. But who cares? She makes wearing a coat so damn sexy.

Dino Lovin'

I really like what the guys are wearing, too. I just appreciate it when guys wear clothes that fit well. And for some reason, I really like the pair of gray jeans TheS is wearing. It’s unique. I also really like the Hugo Boss half-zip pullover sweater that TheS is wearing. It’s just the right length and fit for his frame.

Eon’s got his staple uniform. His lace-up white t-shirt and dark-wash boot-cut jeans (above).

I think I’m just completely over the baggy, washed out look. I think for guys our age, it’s time to dress well (better).

That night was surprisingly fashionable for a Night @ the Museum, but then again, we’re in LA, trick! I should really have figured we would come out en vogue anyway.

i love my fashionable girlfriends.  while i’m mostly still a sweats/jeans/t-shirt kind of girl, i’ve definitely learned from them.

What I’m wearing:

F21 Black & White print pleated skirt, F21 ruffled halter top, F21 wide yellow belt (which roomie lent). also, can’t see it, but i had the most fabulous pouf in my hair courtesy of miss EV.

dinner was at Blue Dahlia in Downtown LA.

  • the place was really cute, with a back patio that was lit up with string lights and japanese lanterns
  • service was pretty awful, with our waiter taking YEARS to take our order & get our orders out.
  • but the wine list is commendable. we ordered A. Mano fiano-greco
  • i ordered the ahi tuna salad which was fabulous — despite the fact that the food came out almost an hour and a half after we ordered it.  sigh.  i swear, i think our waiter was just a spazz.

wine ahi tuna salad

When we got home, we hung out, pulled out the microwave popcorn, and what else? Watched Sex and the City: the Movie!

movie time

love u girls!

So what if I’m wearing Black Tights, with Brown Shoes and a Navy Blazer?  Have I broken some code of fashion where blacks and browns don’t mix, or blacks and navy bring on the blues?  I don’t know.  You tell me.

The shirt is from H&M and was about $24.00.

The blazer is from Forever21 and was about $17.00.

Tights are from the Fashion District in Downtown Los Angeles for about $4.00.

Shoes are Steve Maddens for $89.00 –> but these were a gift from Mom!

The effect of having a fashionable roommate is to make the fashion unable aspire.  I’m still hoping her fashion ability will enable my dormant one.  Or maybe create a non-existent one.  It’s a long shot, but as Merlin sang in the Classic Disney Film, The Sword in the Stone, “It’s up to you how far you go…if you don’t try you’ll never know…”
I know, I know, it’s a cheap shot quoting a cartoon and using a quote that applies to everything…but *shrug* if it works, it works.

So, I went to school on Monday and felt like I ought to wear something NOT jeans and t-shirt (which is what I normally wear.)  Here’s the result:

H&M Black Jumper Dress + Forever 21 Black Woven Belt

H&M Black Jumper Dress + Forever 21 Black Woven Belt

This outfit cost less than $15.  The dress I bought off the H&M sale rack on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving when everything and their mom is on sale) for $5.99 and the belt came with another outfit from F21 that was also on sale for under $10. I topped the outfit off with a dark wash jean jacket from Guess (which I bought my Junion year in high school and still fits — no matter how hard I hoped I would still grow).  The jacket cost $40+ dollars over ten years ago.

Also, it’s awkward to the MAX trying to take pictures of myself, but Roommate says it gets easier in time. I hope so.

However, personality kicked in later that day.  I went home during a break in classes and changed into black Adidas track pants and a black t-shirt.  Ooops…
